The Johnny Bench Fund

The Johnny Bench Scholarship Fund has expanded it's program. Now, the JBF will continue to support student athletes seeking higher education while also offering grants to additional youth focused charities.

About

Mission

The  purpose of the Johnny Bench Fund is to provide scholarships  to college and university undergraduates who have displayed both  academic and athletic credentials during their high school careers, and  who are in need of financial help to begin or continue their education  at the college or university level.

History

  • The  Johnny Bench Scholarship Fund was established with a donation of  $25,000 in 1983 by the Cincinnati Reds as a tribute to Johnny’s illustrious 17-year career with the team.
  • Over 1,250 recipients have received grants through the 2022 graduating school year, including over 60 from Johnny’s home town of Binger, OK.
  • More than $2 Million in scholarships have been granted from the Johnny Bench Scholarship Fund.

Who qualifies for a scholarship?

For students residing within the I-275 boundary and attending the University of Cincinnati, Miami University, Mt. St. Joseph University, Northern Kentucky University, Thomas More College and Cincinnati State. Also for students residing in Binger, OK attending college in Oklahoma. Applicants must have participated in athletics.

The applicant must be a senior in High School or an undergraduate attending an accredited, non-proprietary college or university and a resident of the Greater Cincinnati area

Mission

We generate funds to return to the community via charitable  contributions. These contributions have been earmarked for abused and at  risk children.


History
Eighteen tournaments have raised over 12 million dollars for local  children’s charities. Funds are raised through golf and tennis events  with tournament sponsorships, raffles, live and silent auction


The Johnny Bench Foundation contributed $10,000 in 2021.
